Nexo Creative Writing Group
Date and timeTue 19.10.2021, at 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Nexo Creative Writing group offers a safe, brave, and encouraging space for beginner and more experienced writers who want to explore the basics of creative writing.
The meetings are held in English, but you can write either in English, Finnish or Spanish.
Note: You need to pre-register to the group. Application period for the fall group is 1.-15.8.2021. Instructions for applying can be found in Nexo’s social media platforms (Instagram @nexocreativewriting and in Facebook Nexo Creative Writing).
Throughout the sessions we explore creative writing together as a group and let our ideas flow through thought-provoking exercises that help us connect with our writing. We use our personal narratives as a tool to fuel our creative writing: we dig into our memories, play with our imagination and learn to be more observant of our surroundings, so at the end, we feel more equipped to use writing as a daily creative resource. We also host reading sessions, in which we encourage participants to share their texts with the group, give and receive feedback.
Nexo aims to create a space for collective writing. The group is for everyone who is interested in creative writing, attracting people from various backgrounds. You do not need to have previous experience of collective creation in writing to join.
During the first weeks of the group’s work we explore our own creative writing and let the ideas flow. Towards the end of the sessions we encourage participants to step out of their comfort zone and share their work. We compile texts created during the fall into a publication, which is shared in Nexo’s social media and in other platforms.
In the fall of 2021, from 7th of September to 26th of October the group will meet on Tuesdays at 17-19 in Caisa Cultural Center (Kaikukatu 4b, Helsinki). The meetings will be organized safely always according to the current meeting restrictions. Due to the Corona virus situation, the maximum group size is 10 people. If necessary, the meetings will be moved to an online setting.
