Description

The gallery is transformed into a forest lake, in which Ulla-Maija Alanen’s underwater plants surround imaginative plankton sculptures created by children and installed in the middle of the space.

The space is given an aural dimension by a multi-channel soundscape composed by Maija Ruuskanen, featuring underwater sounds of the Baltic Sea.

In the works of artist Ulla-Maija Alanen, art and natural science go hand in hand, with art serving as a window into environmental questions. Alanen’s art is in dialogue with the art created by children.

The work is part of the Helsinki Biennial Inspired series. Helsinki Biennial is an international visual arts event that brings outstanding contemporary art to maritime Helsinki every two years. The first biennial will be held in Vallisaari from 12 June to 26 September 2021.

The exhibition is open during the opening times of Annantalo:

1.6.–4.7. Mon–Fri at 9:00–17:00, Sat–Sun closed (Exception: Sat 12 June Helsinki Day 10–16)

5.7.–31.7. Mon–Fri at 10:00–16:00

1.8.–19.12. Mon–Fri at 8:00–20:00, Sat at 10:00–16:00
