Date and time11.3 – 23.5.2021
The exhibition will be rescheduled due to coronavirus situation, the new information will be announced later. See Picturing light! virtually on Annantalo’s website!
Picturing Light! is an ode to a playful mind and the power of imagination. The exhibition approaches light and images with a playful sense of exploration. What is light? Where does it go? How can time be seen? What do I see, feel, hear?
How we think and act is affected by the way we perceive the world. Our perception depends on the physical properties of our body as well as our life experiences and culture. Our senses presents us with a very limited sample of all the things that are happening around us all the time.
Light and a camera can make visible things that would otherwise be unknown to us, or which we are unable to observe with our senses. Figures in the shadows are revealed, motion is stopped and new realities open up before our eyes.
What does light reveal, what remains in the shadows? How does playing for and with a camera extend our observations and understanding of the world around us?
The exhibition presents works by art students at Annantalo along with artworks they have chosen from the collections of Helsinki Art Museum HAM. Also featured are works by school groups created in Annantalo’s 5x2 art classes.
In addition to galleries on both floors of the building, the exhibition extends to the front yard. There is also an online version of the show available at the Annantalo website.
Join us on a journey to the unknown!
