Description

Miela sorjjasmeahttunvuohta/Mielen
itsenäisyys/Mental Independence is a five-day slow conversation event where the participants
talk about the mental independence of Indigenous peoples in Sámi, Finnish, English, and maybe in other languages, and do textile crafts at the same time. Hoping that the presence of an open fire will lead away from the time frame
of academic seminars and inspire to tell stories.

Conveners of the discussion are artist-researcher Katarina Pirak-Sikku, professor Lea Kantonen and senior researcher Hanna Guttorm.

The event is a part of Uniarts Helsinki’s fourth
Research Pavilion, taking place in Hietsun Paviljonki and its surroundings in
Helsinki 5.6.-29.8.2021.

Research Pavilion, Hietsun Paviljonki (Hiekkarannantie 9)

23.8.2021 – 27.8.2021 Tue-Sun 12-18

Free entrance
