Elina Holley: Invisible Connections
Date and time1 – 30.9.2021
The artist, Elina Holley, has been inspired by the secret life of trees. Fascinating organic shapes glow in bright colours in her artwork. They leave room for interpretation. Holley believes that the forest can help to understand the invisible connections that guide the direction of the lives.
"From a distance, the forest seems to wave like a green ocean as trees bend simultaneously with the wind. It sounds like pom-poms as leaves brush across one another. Underground, hidden from view, trees communicate and send warnings to each other when needed. We know surprisingly little of this ‘wood wide web’ run by a mycorrhiza network – a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between fungus and tree roots. "
Elina Holley’s artwork has been exhibited at LUX Helsinki Light Festival and Helsinki Design Week among others. Her style is known for bright, bold colour combinations with a slight dark undertone. Often on the surface her work may seem just playful and elegant whilst it is addressing complex identities or our complicated connection to nature.
