Can you have a laugh at the opera? Of course you can, and Don Pasquale makes it hard not to. This is opera music at its best.
When Don Pasquale, a man set in his ways, thinks he has found his ideal wife, he is drawn into a turmoil of events that turns his peaceful life upside down.
These melodies are literally music to your ears. With its musical-esque, cheerful and lively tunes, Don Pasquale is a perfect example of easily digestible and superbly enjoyable music theatre. No wonder it’s one of the world’s most popular comic operas, along with The Barber of Seville and L’elisir d’amore.
This time the events take place in 1950s Italy. The audience gets to savour lush Mediterranean scenery, stylish costumes, and above all, exhilaratingly Italian music. The scene is set for fabulously fresh springtime frolics.
