Northern Pulse – Nordic Flamenco
Guitarist Bettina Flater to guest star in the Nordic Flamenco Club!
The Nordic Flamenco Club, organized by the Helsinki-based flamenco collective Imperfecto Collective invites freelance flamenco artists from the Nordic countries to work together and share their art on the same stage in Helsinki. The second Nordic Flamenco Club by the name “Northern Pulse” will be organized in March and focuses on rhythm: What is the pulse of contemporary flamenco in the North? How does rhythm and for example the changing seasons affect and determine our lives and our art in the North?
The amazing visiting guitarist of the evening will be Norwegian Bettina Flater. Having lived and worked for a decade in Madrid, Flater has been a guitarist for such renowned flamenco artists as Marco Flores, Karen Lugo and Lucia Miguel and worked with Manolo Sanlucar. She is also well known for her work in the tablaos in Madrid. Currently back in her home country Norway, Flater composes, plays and sings and takes influences for example from Norwegian folk music. She is one of the few female flamenco guitarists and a pioneer in this traditionally very masculine field.
The Nordic Flamenco Club will be also presenting dancers Elina Robinson, Rodrigo González and Anne Riikola-Sarkkila, singer Anna Murtola, percussionist Ricardo Padilla and violinist Lotta-Maria Pitkänen. The performance will be illustrated by Christian Robinson’s video art and motion graphics that add a strong narrative layer to the live music and dance.
